Documents Required for Borrowing

In recent years, driver's license verification for visitors to Japan has been strictly enforced.

This page provides useful information for visitors to Japan to check for themselves before making a reservation.

 

There are two patterns of documents required for visitors to Japan to drive in Japan.

 

1. For countries with bilateral agreements with Japan

(Belgium,Switzerland,Monaco,Germany,France,Taiwan)

The following documents are required at the time of borrowing for those from the countries listed above.

 

・Passport

・Driver's license of your country

・Japanese translation of your driver's license issued by your country's embassy/consulate in Japan or JAF

 

2. Member states of the Geneva Conventions of 1949

(For example, the United States,Australia,South Korea,Canada)

The following documents are required at the time of borrowing for those from the countries listed above.

 

・Passport

・International Driver's License

Please note that international licenses other than the form prescribed by the Geneva Convention cannot be used.

Please note that if you do not have even one of these documents, you will not be able to rent a car from any rental company.
